Robotium – User scenario testing for android

Came across this interesting project that makes it easy to write powerful and robust automatic black-box test cases for Android applications. With the support of Robotium, test case developers can write function, system and acceptance test scenarios, spanning multiple Android activities.

The Future is Mobile;Android is Mobile

In the recent past there has been a lot of talk and hype in tech circles over the Android operating system. It all started with the official launch in late 2007, the first Android challenge taking place in 2008, and eventually the release of the first Android-powered phone, T-Mobile G1 in the same year. Since then the open source operating system has grown and established itself firmly in the market. From smartphones, tablets, netbooks, to e-book readers, Android is even powering digital photo frames, satellite navigation units, and most recently cars.

But what exactly makes it so popular? I believe its Open source model and open APIs leads to its adoption by handset manufacturers and application developers alike. And with the entry of brands such as ZTE, Huawei and LG just to name a few, Android-powered devices are headed for mass adoption. This should(if not already) be cause for positive concern by developers.

We’re headed for what you’d call a universal operating system and soon almost all our devices shall come Android Powered;from Set-top boxes to Home automation units, only creativity and time can tell whats coming. In the meantime, Android developers should be busy writing apps for the masses.
The future is mobile and Android is Mobile.

Ascending Mt.Kenya (Dec 24 – Dec 27 , 2009)

At at 5,199m (17,058 feet), Mt.Kenya takes the cap for the highest mountain in Kenya, and Africa’s second highest.
We chose the NaroMoru route, although not the most scenic, as the fastest way to get to point lenana at 4,985m which is the limit for trekkers like me! The other points Nelion and Batian require skills that may well be acquired in years to come;i speak for myself here. Although highly recommended, we skipped the overnight acclimatization at the base and instead went straight up on the first day.
Here’s a breakdown of the entire trip:

(Dec 24, 2009)

A 10km walk/trek of about 3-4 hrs, ascending at 400m.
Starting at the Naromoru Park gate(2600m), the trek through the rainforest ended at the Met station(3000m).
We set camp at Naromoru River Lodge cottages where dinner was served.
Christmas eve spent in a cottage, listening to monkeys and very cold!

At 3000m, the altitude was already on our cases but we still had to do another 1200m to reach Mackinders camp(4200m). This was another 10km trek that had to be done in the storm. 30 min into the trek, we reached the end of the forest belt and entered the moorland, a vertical bog which was on this particular day made very difficult due to the rain.
We reched a fork overlooking Teleki Valley and rested at Mackinders Camp, where dinner was served.
At this point we could clearly see most of the snowy peaks.
One christmas day that’ll always be imprinted on my mind.

Very excited to hit the Lenana summit, we woke up at 2 a.m for the 11km, 785m ascent to lenana.
After walking up for about 4hrs, we reached Lenana at 4,985m by sunrise.
Took photos, walked back down to Mackinders Camp for breakfast, after which we did another 4hr descent to the Met station for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast we descended down further to the Naromoru Park Gate, for the final journey back to Nairobi.

Christmas well spent and looking forward to doing Mt.Kilimanjaro over Easter 2010.
